The distance between the Isle of Harris and Scalpay is only 300 metres (980 ft) over narrows of Caolas Scalpaigh, yet untill 1997 the Isle of Scalpay was only accessible by ferry (or boat) until the completion of the Scalpay Bridge.  This small Hebridean island was a thriving fishing and crofting community. You will find the Scalpachs (an islander from Scalpay) offer visitors a warm and friendly welcome.
